This, as of today, is officially one of the top 10 places in the world to propose this leap year.
The list, compiled by the self-styled authority on everything in global travel, the World Travel Awards, lists two places in the UK. One in Yorkshire, one in the Cotswolds and for the record, none in London. It reads as follows:
1. Taj Mahal, India
2. Lewa Downs, Kenya
4. Rialto Bridge, Venice
5. Iguazu Falls, Argentina
6. Roseberry Topping, Yorkshire
7. Sahara Desert, Morocco
8. The Pitons, St Lucia
9. Great Barrier Reef, Australia
10. Snowshill, Cotswolds, UK
So girls living in the UK, you have two places within driving distance on Wednesday, but where else would you suggest for a romantic moment on the 29th?
I posted a photo of a Druids Temple to Twitter earlier today. It’s an awesome spot but I’m not sure its right for the old knee bend.
It all comes back to the question what makes a place really special. What makes you remember it with a smile, even years later?
Snowshill is gorgeous. I hate the term but it really is a chocolate box village, a beautiful part of England, but its impact is bigger than that, it would be beautiful anywhere in the world. It feels unique. Like I said before, my 150 places in 150 days won’t be perfect, but they will be personal and they will mean something to me and hopefully some of the readers of anywherebutlondon, just like Snowshill and Roseberry Topping already do.
So take another look at the top 10.
England gets two mentions making it, by my rudimentary reckoning, the most romantic place on the planet right now.
So come on where else have they missed? Together we might just bump the Taj Mahal off its perch.
